Dear Friends:
With sadness and grief I write this note to provide relatives
and friends with an update on the status of my husband,
Ramsey Muñiz. He has been gravely ill since undergoing
gallbladder surgery. (Previously we thought that food poisoning
was the cause of his condition).

In spite of his grave status, he is improving (though slowly),
and I now feel that he will live. I have been beside Ramsey
since Thursday, August 25, and yesterday (Wednesday, August 31)
was the first time that he was able to speak and hold very brief
conversations. He is still very ill.

Below is a synopsis of his progress: Wednesday, August 24
Ramsey has his gallbladder removed because of stones. This happens
quickly as a result of extreme illness that he endured several days
prior.

Thursday, August 25
I arrive in the late afternoon. They attempt to do an ERCP
(Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) to insert a stent
and get bile to flow through it, and not elsewhere. It is an
unsuccessful attempt, as the extent of his infection and swelling
is vast. He is returned to the hospital where I am able to see him.

I learn that Ramsey has only asked for pain medication once. His
appearance and inability to speak tells me that his condition is
severe and intensely painful (close to the point of shock). I ask
that he be given pain medicine and educate him about the need to
ask for it when needed. (He rarely takes medicine and has never
been hospitalized).

Friday, August 26
Ramsey receives medication as needed, but his condition remains
very grave. He is unable to speak, loses his breath often, and
struggles to live. He is cared for by compassionate and professional
personnel.

Saturday, August 27
Ramsey receives medication as needed, but his condition remains
very grave. He is unable to speak, loses his breath often, and
struggles to live. He is cared for by compassionate and professional
personnel.

Sunday, August 28
Ramsey receives medication as needed, but his condition remains
very grave. He is unable to speak, loses his breath often, and
struggles to live. He is cared for by compassionate and professional
personnel. Others perform extensive exams to study and analyze
his condition and determine a means of improving it.

Monday, August 29
In the morning they make a tiny incision (I believe), and insert a
tube to drain infectious fluids around the stomach area. The amount
drained is about 4 liters. He feels much better, as the extreme
pain is greatly lessened. He remains extremely ill and hardly speaks.

Tuesday, August 30
Ramsey receives dialysis, to help his kidneys, as they have not
been functioning correctly. He feels better and for the first
time he is able to speak, though very limited for his condition
and lack of strength.

Wednesday, August 31
Ramsey’s body remains extremely swollen in several areas. The doctor
orders a tube to be inserted through his nose into the stomach.
(Recall that earlier they have drained 4 liters of infectious fluids
outside the stomach area). The tube begins to suction out additional
liters of infectious fluids, and this continues throughout the night.
For the first time, Ramsey converses.

Thursday, September 1
They will remove the tube for 2 hours only to determine how much
fluids build without it. If it is a great amount, they will remove
the tube. If the amount is not significant, they will remove the tube
and allow bodily functions to help in the healing process. Though he
is still not out of the woods, he is making slow improvement.

Notes:
As stated earlier, Ramey has been cared for by compassionate and
professional personnel. I believe that he will get well, and Ramsey
has told me that he knows he will live, as God (Mexi) told him so
several days ago. We do not maintain ANY thoughts or energies on
the cause of Ramsey’s current condition, but rather on prayer and
spiritual communication with God — the Higher Power through whom
healing can be received. We seek assistance in this fashion. We ask
that people provide loving thoughts and prayers, and ask others to
do the same.

If you send email, chances are that you will not receive a response.
Please understand that many people who wish Ramsey well are
communicating with me.

Our love and gratitude go to all who express compassion, love, and
concern, and more importantly to those who pray on behalf of my
husband.

that it has been a long 11 years of pain, sorrow, sacrifice, tears, and
love. We must now continue with the journey that God has chosen for us.

The universe, the world is in a new conflict between humanity and it is
our destiny to set forth love, charity, courage, harmony, and
spirituality. Mi corazon, I love you with my life. Not many will ever
experience the essence of pain, tears, and sacrifice. Look at how brave
and strong you are! I admire and love you.

Dearest Husband:

Your words are beauty and poetry, and I am privileged to
receive them. The pain felt during the past eleven years has been
great, and people will come to know how we have suffered. They will
learn more, however, of the happiness and love that follow sacrifice.

What a unique destiny we have been given. I have not heard
others use the words liberation and justice when speaking of their
destinies. This unique gift of leadership has been granted to you.

I too embrace the journey that God has chosen for us, as I
know that your intentions are pure. Let us keep our focus on God, and
pray that positive spirits continue to guide us in this direction.

Homeland Security says it will deliver Albanian who named political assassins into their hands

The Albanian who publicly announced the names of the assassins who killed Albanian Democratic Party leader Azem Hajdari will be deported to Albania, said Kevin Czechowicz, deportation officer for the Dallas district of the Department of Homeland Security.

Rrustem Neza fled to the United States, but was prevented by his previous attorney from presenting the facts of his case when he appeared before an immigration judge to ask for asylum. As a result, the immigration judge denied his asylum application and he now is in jail under a final order of deportation. His two brothers Xhemal and Ismet, who subsequently presented their cases to an immigration judge, both were granted asylum.

Mr. Czechowicz took Rrustem Neza to the Dallas-Fort Worth airport to deport him to Albania last week, but he pleaded for his life so loudly that airline officials would not let him board the plane. Czechowicz said that he will take Mr. Neza to the airport again, and will deport him. At present, Mr. Neza is detained by the DHS at the contract prison in Haskell, Texas.

To date, Mr. Neza never has been allowed to present the facts of his case to an immigration judge. The Board of Immigration Appeals denied his motion to reopen on account of his previous attorney’s ineffectiveness. A petition for review is pending in the Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, but DHS could deport Mr. Neza before the 11th Circuit makes a decision.

Desperately trying to save his brother’s life, Xhemal Neza has been talking to everyone who will listen about the danger to Rrustem. He even asked for the help of Senator Kay Bailey Hutcheson, but her office said the Senator had no power to intervene.

It was Rrustem’s brother Xhemal who told him the names of the killers, after Xhemal personally witnessed the machine-gunning of Hajdari and his bodyguards. Rrustem told the names of the killers to a crowd at a meeting in the Albanian city of Tropoje while Xhemal was unconscious in a hospital in the capital city Tirana, after Xhemal was injured by police fire during a demonstration protesting the assassination.

The assassins were associated with both the ruling Socialist Party and Hajdari’s rival for Democratic Party leadership Sali Berisha. Xhemal and Rrustem hid from the police with two of their cousins, both of whom were murdered before they could flee from Albania.

At the hearing on Rrustem’s asylum application in Miami, the immigration judge doubted that the cousins had been murdered. The official death certificates of both cousins and a newspaper account of the murder of one of them were available to prove the truth, but Rrustem’s attorney was unaware of them and did not show them to the immigration judge.

All pleadings, affidavits, and other evidence are available for inspection and copying at the office of Rrustem’s present attorney John Wheat Gibson. They include a detailed, sworn, account of the murder of Hajdari, and the course of Rrustem’s asylum application in the immigration court.

The man who screamed his way out of deportation has been rearrested and once again faces removal by force.

Rrustem Neza, the Albanian refugee whose brothers all were granted asylum but whose own was denied because of his previous lawyer’s alleged incompetence, was arrested at work last Friday in East Texas and now is being held at Jena, Louisiana.

He fears that he will be assassinated in Albania like some other of his relatives who were allied with a famous Albanian democrat (see our archives on Rrustem, including this overview.)

“The BICE (Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement) intends to deport him by force on a chartered aircraft, even though he would have left voluntarily if BICE had sent him the customary letter to report for deportation,” reports Neza’s attorney John Wheat Gibson of Dallas.

“His wife and son are subject to the same deportation order, but are at home,” says Gibson. “I have asked BICE to allow the whole family to leave together, but they refuse. Once again, government by testosterone.”

” We have not given up on trying to find a rational actor high enough in the government to arrange for the family to leave together,” says Gibson.
